Professional Development
Both people who work directly with families and those in leadership said they really want more chances to learn and grow in their jobs. Since the field of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health (IECMH) is always changing, they want to keep their skills and knowledge up to date. However, many said it’s hard to do that because there isn’t enough money to pay for training. That includes money to cover the time when staff are away from work to attend. Some people said they have to pay for training themselves, which feels unfair. Providers and administrators also said it’s hard to find out what training is available. And when they do find it, the quality is inconsistent.
“I would like the opportunity to continue studying and be better, because the more I know and learn the better I can support the families I work with.” - From a direct service provider
“We don't have additional funding for professional development. It would be lovely if I could send all of my staff to some of these new, really innovative trainings. But all those cost money.” - From an administrator
