The Strategy: What to Change

Our strategy requires a re-imagining of how we do this work by putting relationships first, thinking emergently, and applying six principles we call “Re-imagining Moves”. It also includes trusting that the workforce knows what they need, and partnering with them to implement the strategies they identified. This section is intended to be used as an implementation guide for what needs to change in order to diversify, train, retain, and expand the IECMH workforce.

Call to Actions: Ideas from the Workforce

A complete list of actions is available below. Ideas were generated by the focus groups and are organized by topic. You can explore each topic in detail by visiting the Topic Deep Dive section of this report. Actions are also categorized by specific role of Funders and Legislators, Government Agencies, and Organization and Program Administrators. We focused on those roles, because they are typically the people with authority and influence to implement change. A blank template is available at the end, so you can prioritize and track your actions.

Strategies and Resources: Ideas from System Partners

In addition to the ideas generated by providers and administrators, we also capture ideas from our interviews with key system partners. Individuals and organizations looking for more detailed systems solutions can use the chart below to find potential opportunities for action. The information is organized to match the topics that emerged from the focus groups. Oftentimes there is a disconnect between what people working directly with children and families say they need and what people working at the system level can actually implement. This chart is meant to be the connective tissue between the two.

Document Library: Ideas from Others

In addition to collecting ideas from providers, administrators, and system partners, we also gathered and reviewed a lot of resources from people who are working in the field of IECMH, inside and outside of Washington State. These documents are all available in a document library. Use them as a tool to explore other ways to expand, diversify, train, and retain the workforce.
